Theofanidis: Rainbow Body
Orff: Carmina Burana
Carl Orff's 1937 composition Carmina Burana remains one of the most popular pieces in the classical music repertoire. The 150-member Springfield Symphony Chorale performs with the Symphony and local soloists Jessica McCormack, David Sievers and Basil Fett (who also directs the Chorale) on this monumental and frequently performed work.
Orff subtitled his exuberant hour-long oratorio "Cantiones profanae, cantoribus et choris cantandae, comi-tantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis," or "Secular songs for singers and choruses accompanied by instruments and magical images" – hardly typical concert fare.
This is a fantastic conclusion to a stellar season!
