About the Event

Join us for our annual series of FREE concerts on the lawn of the Springfield Museum of Art.

The Springfield Symphony Orchestra will present Lunch on the Lawn, a series of free, informal ensemble concerts located on the front lawn of the Springfield Museum of Art, 107 Cliff Park Rd., Springfield.  The programs will be performed from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm on four consecutive Fridays – August 2, August 9, August 16 and August 23.

Bring the whole family or stop in during your workday – Lunch on the Lawn is a great way to spend your summer lunch hour. Admission to Museum exhibits is free to event patrons after the concert!

• Box lunches are available for $6, with beverage, while they last.

• Bring a lawn chair or blanket, an outdoor tent is provided.

• In case of inclement weather, the concert will move inside the Museum.

The Hal Melia Quartet helps kick off the Springfield Jazz and Blues Festival weekend with this performance. The energy and personality Hal Melia brings to both his teaching and his performing are contagious. A member of the Springfield Symphony Jazz Orchestra (SSJO), Hal resides in Dayton, and serves as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. He is the epitome of the multi-instrumentalist and a consummate professional, noteworthy as a vocalist and scat singer, and has composed and arranged a body of work for a variety of settings.

This concert series is possible through the generous support of the McGregor Brothers Holding LLC, the Springfield Foundation, Sheehan Brothers Vending Company, Home City Tent and Awning Co. and the Springfield Museum of Art.  Partial funding for the SSO season is provided by the Ohio Arts Council and Culture Works.
