About the Event
Join us for the 33rd Annual Garden Tour sponsored by the Women’s Association of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (WASSO).
Spend an afternoon exploring six beautiful area gardens during this years Annual Garden Tour. This self-guided event invites guests to experience a variety of unique landscapes, garden designs, and outdoor spaces while supporting the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
Take a stroll through six unique local gardens and enjoy the creativity, beauty, and care that homeowners have poured into their outdoor spaces.
Visit each of these gardens on the tour:
3286 Fairfield Pike - Hay-Connelly Residence
Welcome to the “Homeland” of Pam and John, 5 acres of land that is half wooded and half landscaped grounds. When purchased 15 years ago it was a blank slate, and over the years the owners have added almost all of the hardscape, beds, trees, shrubs, and plants you will see. Tour highlights include The Point, The Park, Side Patio, Gazebo, Paradise, The Pool, Pam’s Garden, Covered Patio, and John’s Garden.
3243 Troy Road - Zernechel Residence
This property was purchased by Harry and Cathy Zernechel in 2014. The stone feature of the property appealed to them, even though it lacked a creative landscape. Extensive plants and trees have been added to attract birds and pollinators. Paths and shaded seating areas invite visitors to walk the property, reflect, and enjoy the garden.
707 West Harding Road - Krogg Residence
The Kroggs have enjoyed living in their home for the past forty-three years. The home is a Gordon Van-Tine kit home design called the Bristol and was built in 1937. The owners have created a wooded feel around the property, using annual plantings, metal sculptures, a gazebo, and a self-made waterfall to add color, texture, and interest.
1765 Walnut Terrace - Dixon Residence
In some ways, this garden is a product of the Covid lockdown, giving Scott and Beth Dixon the opportunity to create something positive during a difficult time. Beth’s green thumb led her to design and curate the greenhouse, succulent garden, and potted plants. Scott created much of the stonework, design pieces, sculptures, and found-object art. The garden is filled with tiny enchantments, offering something new to discover with every visit.
2106 Northridge Drive - Calicoat Residence
After visiting an open house “just for fun” in 2024, the Calicoats fell in love with the rolling backyard and expansive family room windows. Since moving in, they have transformed the garden with stone stairs, a Zen Garden area, perennial beds, bonsai displays, a potting house, and other thoughtful plantings. Inspiration for the garden comes from a Bonsai Collection that began nearly 10 years ago.
102 North Kensington Place - Schutte Residence
Visitors to the Schutte home are greeted by a magnificent canopy of sunburst honey locust trees, which provide dappled light for vibrant impatiens and seasonal blooms. Known by neighborhood children as “the decoration house,” 102 North Kensington Place transforms with every holiday and season. This garden is a living legacy and a tribute to the love of flowers Meighan inherited from her father and grandmother.
