About the Event

The musical revolution of the mid-1940s that was Bebop forever changed American music. It was led by two of the greatest artists in our country’s history—trumpeter, composer, and bandleader John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie and Kansas City native Charlie “Yardbird” Parker. Join the Springfield Symphony Jazz Orchestra as they stomp and swing their way through groundbreaking hits of this era, played from the rare original scores of the 1940s and 50s. Hear guest soloist Ashlin Parker, renowned New Orleans trumpet virtuoso, as he joins the band for a program filled with favorites including A Night in Tunisia, Cherokee, Round Midnight, and Manteca.
