Meet Ashtin Johnson: Supporting the Next Generation of Springfield Musicians

The Springfield Youth Ensembles have a new face helping things run smoothly behind the scenes.
Please join us in welcoming Ashtin Johnson, our new Youth Education Programs Manager. Ashtin joined the Springfield Youth Ensembles team on July 1 and brings with her a love for the arts, community outreach, and years of experience as an orchestral violinist.
In her new role, Ashtin helps ensure that Springfield Youth Ensembles rehearsals, concerts, tryouts, and events run smoothly throughout the year.
She is also no stranger to the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. You may already recognize her from the stage.
From the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Stage to the Youth Ensembles
Ashtin has been a member of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra's first violin section for four years.
Her work as an orchestral violinist also takes her to other communities. Ashtin is a section member of the Lima Symphony Orchestra in Lima, Ohio. She also performs regularly with the Lexington Philharmonic in Kentucky and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra in Oklahoma.
Now, her work with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra includes a new role supporting the young musicians who are part of the Springfield Youth Ensembles.
A Musical Education That Continues Today
Ashtin has spent years studying and performing the violin.
She is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She expects to graduate with her Doctorate in Violin Performance this December.
Ashtin also holds a Master's degree in Violin Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Her connection to youth orchestra programs goes back even further.
Growing up, Ashtin played violin in the nearest Youth Symphony program in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through that experience, she saw firsthand how transformative music can be in a young person's life.
Today, she is excited to support the next generation of musicians through her work with the Springfield Youth Ensembles.
