Nourishing Our Community Through Music: Timeless Whimsy on January 24

On Saturday, January 24, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra is offering something truly special. You can attend a full Symphony concert by bringing a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank instead of purchasing a traditional ticket. It is a simple and meaningful way to enjoy live music while directly supporting families across Champaign, Clark, and Logan Counties.

On the night of the concert, guests are invited to bring a shelf stable food donation or a cash contribution to the box office. In exchange, you will receive your ticket to the performance. Donations of any size are welcome. Every item and every dollar will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank to help feed our neighbors in need.

This evening brings together two important things. It helps nourish our community through generosity, and it offers a chance to enjoy the beauty of live orchestral music right here in Springfield, Ohio.

The concert, titled Timeless Whimsy, takes place at the Clark State Performing Arts Center and is designed to feel like an elegant escape. The program is full of charm, imagination, and moments of joy that make live music so powerful.

This evening is designed to feel like an elegant escape. From the first note to the final bow, the concert offers charm, beauty, and moments of pure delight. It is a night that reminds us why live classical music continues to matter and how it can connect us in meaningful ways.

The program opens with Boieldieu’s La Dame Blanche Overture. This piece is light, lyrical, and full of dramatic flair. It sets the tone for the evening with energy and warmth, welcoming the audience into a world of storytelling through sound.

Next, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra is joined by a very special guest. Dwight Parry, Principal Oboist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, takes the stage for Jean Françaix’s The Flower Clock. This playful and imaginative work moves through different hours of the day, with each movement inspired by a flower that blooms at that time. The music is colorful and whimsical, with orchestral textures that feel both delicate and surprising. It is a piece that invites listeners to smile, reflect, and enjoy the beauty of small details.

The concert concludes with Muzio Clementi’s Symphony No. 4. This work brings together classical elegance and early romantic warmth. The melodies are rich and expressive, and the orchestration feels both graceful and powerful. It is a satisfying and uplifting way to close the evening, leaving the audience with a sense of joy and fullness.

While Timeless Whimsy nourishes the soul through music, this concert also serves a greater purpose. For this performance, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Champaign, Clark, and Logan Counties to help nourish our neighbors.

Instead of purchasing a ticket in the traditional way, audience members are invited to pay for their ticket with a donation. On the night of the concert, simply bring your donation to the box office and receive your ticket in exchange. Donations of any size are welcome.

Second Harvest asks that donated items be shelf stable, with no frozen or refrigerated foods and no glass containers. Cash donations are also accepted in any amount, and all cash collected will go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank.

Some helpful donation ideas include:

  1. Peanut butter in plastic containers

  2. Canned tuna or chicken

  3. Canned beans

  4. Pasta or rice

  5. Dry cereal or oatmeal

  6. Canned vegetables or fruit

This evening is about more than attending a concert. It is about coming together as a community to care for one another. It is about enjoying beautiful music while helping ensure families across our region have access to food.

On January 24, you can fill the concert hall with music and help fill pantries at the same time. It is a simple act with a powerful impact.

Join us for Timeless Whimsy at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. Bring a donation. Bring a friend. Leave with a full heart.
